Sr. Manager Network Engineering and Architecture

Reporting directly to the Senior Director IT Infrastructure, the Manager of Network Infrastructure will be responsible for designing, implementing and performing day-to-day support on network infrastructure, appliances (virtual and physical) of network. Manager will oversee Network team; Senior Network Engineers, Network Administrators, Network Monitoring Engineer, Telecommunications Engineer, mid-level and junior network engineers. As well as collaborate with other infrastructure, information security, application and support teams in resolving all network issues. Create and maintain vendor relations, develop network project plans and work with senior leadership on budgeting.

This individual will make significant contribution to the overall technical architecture, stability, resiliency and general health related to the network. This role is hands-on technical leader, manager, and change maker for the IT department. This role will require afterhours, shift work, and long hours during enterprise implementations and other project deliverables. Under the purview of this position responsibilities listed below include, yet not limited to:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Expected to drive operational excellence in everything you do. This includes, but not limited to; creating processes, procedures, and automation to improve efficiency in our day-to-day tasks and projects.
  • Responsible for supporting the internal/external network – Business Offices, Retail Stores, Distribution Centers, Data Center, and E-Commerce.
  • Expected to drive quality into metrics and build reports focusing on improvement. This includes measurement of project plans, deployment schedules, KPI’s and review SLA’s for support tickets and accuracy.
  • Will own all facets of performance and career management for the team. Regular one-on-one meetings with all team members are required.
  • Expected to provide both technical and ‘soft skill’ mentoring in order to maintain a well-rounded, well-balanced team.
  • Will be integral to developing and improving incident and change management within the networking engineering space. Responsibilities include driving initiatives regarding improvements to existing processes, provide feedback, develop new practices & procedures, support audit initiatives, in order to scale with the rapid expansion of the network and customer base.
  • Evaluate potential candidates, participate in initial phone screens and provide relevant guidance and feedback during on-site interviews. Ensuring that proper training takes place for all new hires and continued technical improvement for the first 90-days.
  • Responsible for network project deliverables for all members of the network team; Mid-level & Jr. Network engineer, Telecom Engineer, Network Administrators, Sr. Network Engineers, and Network Monitoring Engineer.
  • Develops standard operating procedures and best practices, including providing written protocols and guidance to staff

  • Creates reports for presentations, weekly/monthly status, outage reports, and continued development of staff.

Job Qualifications – Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, computer science, or a related technical degree
  • 4+ years experience leading, mentoring, managing and growing, network engineers
  • Preferred CCNP Route/Switch Certificate.
  • 5+ Years of Network Architecture experience
  • 5+ Years of large-scale, enterprise-class planning, design, implementation and support experience.
  • 4+ Years of enterprise or service provider network skills with the proven capability to implement and support complex environments.
  • 3+ Years leading networking development and engineering teams.
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
  • Has basic skills in project management; project planning, task identification, scheduling, budgeting, and resource planning
  • Ability and desire to train and mentor junior talent.
  • 2+ years’ experience defining “use cases” for new technology and/or renewal of “End of Life” equipment
  • Experience in networking, circuit, bandwidth utilization, telephony, switching, wireless, monitoring and router protocols: Solarwinds, PRTG, Cisco Wireless, Cisco Call Manager, ShoreTel
  • Experience with load balancing within DMZ and other areas of the infrastructure
  • Experience with ticketing system management: BMC Remedy, ZenDeck, Jira Service Desk
